The name had to be spoken during the film. Riley could be male or female and was to be the main character.
The key had to appear in both a close-up and a medium shot. It did not need to be critical to the story.
Films were limited to 3:00 or less. End credits did not count toward the film runtime but had to remain under 30 seconds, allowing a maximum total file length of 3:30. Opening credits counted toward the three-minute film duration.
2026 films were submitted by 5:00 PM ET on Friday, March 27. Late films could still attend workshops but were disqualified from competition. Recommended formats were QuickTime MOV or MP4, H.264 at 1080p.
Films were not to be gratuitously or explicitly violent, obscene, or sexual. Entries were also asked to avoid depicting students in risky, questionable, or illegal activities without exploring the outcomes, ramifications, or consequences. Schools were expected to follow their own applicable content policies.
Anyone could act in the film, including friends, teachers, parents and pets. Performers did not need to be part of the group attending the workshops.
Projects were asked to include end credits identifying the director or directors, cast and editor so entries could be distinguished when a school submitted multiple films.
All music had to be rights-cleared, original or public domain. Copyrighted music could not be used without permission.
